Would definitely be interested to hear how it sounds. I toyed with the idea of trying to make a regular rotor with sound, and did try drilling little holes and shaping the fans, but I never succeeded it making it noisier.

Sorry guys...the powerball will not be released for the moment by RPM sports. I just got an email from Enda asking me not to promote it for the moment. It might just take quite some time before they are going to sell it.
I just got this powerball today from my friend from mill-products.com...for free..no warnings/messages upfront...it was a really surprise to get it.
But ok..let me tell you a little bit more about this sphere. It comprises quite a few holes in the rotor, but they are drilled in pairs (one of each pair located on 5mm from the middle line of the rotor, so 10mm from each other) and distributed over the surface (4 * 2 = 8 holes in total). The diameter of the holes are 5mm and they are completely drilled through the yellow material of the rotor (you can see the inside of the rotor).
It's quite fun. I am going to show it to my brothers coming weekend
Best regards,
The Force

Ok, so this "beta" Powerball makes a much more noise than the current Powerball.
Well...let me say the following.
Here at work I did not dare to get it above 7000rpm!!
And then you should consider the fact that:
1) I am all alone in my 28m2 office and have the doors closed.
2) It makes the sound of an professional air strike alarm :-) .
Somehow, I just feared that they would start evacuating the building if I went further .
I will post the video tonight.
Best regards,
The Force
EDIT: I just got it up to 12761rpm, but then my colleagues came in It really takes the attention _________________ Personal records:

As soon as this powerball is released, I buy it. My cat will be happy because of the noise, he sleeps 24h/24
In the meantime I got up to 13200rpm...it starts to become even more interesting now :-)
I am especially interested to know if Obiw4n's rpm measurement will provide higher figures at the same rpm (in other words..if the pitch of the sound is really higher).
Unfortunately, I cannot make the video tonight...so it will be tuesday. Sorry guys.
Best regards,
The Force

So, then it is just the volume of the sound which is higher? Or do you see higher harmonics in the spectrum?

Nice one The Force, thanks for submitting that video. However, a direct comparison with a "normal" Powerball would've been good.
Can you feel a difference in the performance? Is there slightly more resistance that you can notice? _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

Yes, the powerball seems to have more resistance at higher speeds. It's quite tough to get it above 13000. Still..I am still convinced that the sensation is as if you achieved much higher speeds.
Btw..what do you mean with comparison with a normal powerball?
spin normal pb to 8000
spin sound pb to 8000
spin normal pb to 10000
spin sound pb to 10000
etc?
I could make that video if you want.
Best regards,

Yeah, just spin a Powerball in each hand and hold eash in turn up to the camera/microphone. I did that once with a couple of mine, to show how much louder my older (faster) one is than a newer one. _________________ 250Hz: (L/R)

Hi all,
I just did some analysis on the special powerball with sound. Here is the result of a 13393rpm run. What can be observed is that the higher harmonics are clearly visible.
And for the interested person, here is the video of this run.
