Believe me my friend, I've tried many times. Seems that after a Firefox upgrade it works first time, but not again. I'm sure it's some port blocking on my firewall, because other IRC chats fail. MSN Messenger works though.

I've tried other browsers, I've tried mIRC...they all give the same error. The problem's really been bad since I got broadband and a wireless router, (though it has worked a couple of times). I also get the problem in the office, which again makes me think it's Firewall-related.

I did find a site which explained how to set up Port Forwarding to allow things like IRC and gaming to work through a Firewall, but haven't got round to setting it all up yet. I'll make sure I try before the next competition.

Yes, when you use a router, you need to activate port forwarding. However, my router seemed to automatically recognise the Mirc application and installed the port forwarding itself.

So, I think you are right, the port forwarding might be the problem, or better said..the absence of the port forwarding.

Superb, I'll get onto it soon and see if I can set something up. Good to see there are a lot of competitions lined up over the next month.

Are you using a proxy? because if it is the case it's probably the proxy which stop the ports forwarding

At work we use a Proxy, but I don't at home. At work at the moment I just get a Timeout error.
